MilX
72 hours of staff work. A few kilobytes. One format for the whole operational picture.
MilX carries the operational picture between command systems — overlays, ORBATs, unit status and material lists — in one format light enough for a tactical radio and simple enough to implement anywhere.
Built for the links you actually have
| Link | All layers | One layer |
|---|---|---|
| Military radio, 2 kbit/s | ~110 s | ~10 s |
| Mobile, 200 kbit/s | ~10 s | ~1 s |
| Mobile, 3 Mbit/s | < 1 s | instant |
One format for the whole picture
- Map overlays drawn with MSS symbology — compatible with MIL-STD-2525C
- ORBATs with unit status and material lists
- Everything a receiving C2 system needs to rebuild the same picture
Speaks to everything else
- NATO Vector Graphics (NVG) — convert to and from the NATO exchange format.
- KML — export any layer to Google Earth for briefings and after-action reviews.
- Plain-text XML — readable by people, by scripts and by AI assistants that can draft or analyse an overlay.
- Versioned — MilX v1 to v3.1, with automatic up- and downgrade.
Fielded
Used by more than 50 defence customers and integrators — names withheld. And native in map.army.
