MilX — three command posts exchanging overlay layers over radio links

MilX® carries the operational picture between command systems — overlays, ORBATs, unit status and material lists — in one format light enough for a tactical radio and simple enough to implement anywhere.

LinkAll layersOne layer
Military radio, 1.2 kbit/s~180 s~17 s
Mobile, 200 kbit/s~10 s~1 s
Mobile, 3 Mbit/s< 1 sinstant

One format for the whole picture

  • Map overlays drawn with MSS® symbology — compatible with MIL-STD-2525C
  • ORBATs with unit status and material lists
  • Everything a receiving C2 system needs to rebuild the same picture

Exchange with other formats

  • NATO Vector Graphics (NVG) — convert to and from the NATO exchange format.
  • KML — export any layer to Google Earth for briefings and after-action reviews.
  • Plain-text XML — readable by people, by scripts and by AI assistants that can draft or analyse an overlay.
  • Versioned — MilX v1 to v3.1, with automatic up- and downgrade.

Fielded

Used by more than 50 defence customers and integrators — names withheld. And native in map.army.
